Residential Complex Riviera
One of the latest large-scale projects by Art New Vision studio, soon to be realized. It is located in Plovdiv, directly beneath one of the city’s hills—Bunardzhika, the second highest hill in Plovdiv—which results in an exceptionally steep terrain.
Riviera is a residential complex that occupies an entire city block. It is situated within the area bordered by General Danail Nikolaev Street and Volga Street.
This led to a very challenging urban planning process and, consequently, complex architectural management. The development is divided into 10 sections that follow the terrain. Each section is unique—no two are alike. Every section is offset by a full floor, and as they begin to step back in a terraced fashion at the top attic levels, a cluster of volumes emerges that is extremely difficult to control. For example, at elevation +10.20, one part is on the fourth floor while another is in the basement. There are no typical floors anywhere.
The complex includes a large commercial area, an educational center, and a hotel section with a café and pastry shop. The inner courtyard is well landscaped and terraced, crawling along the steep terrain.
What we decided was to create massive clinker-clad frames that unify the entire façade. The balconies and terraces are dark to visually recede, featuring distinctive metal railings with a diagonal grid. The upper floors are set back in a stepped manner, but overall, the architecture remains calm and balanced.
On the side facing General Danail Nikolaev Street, we added white rectangular elements spanning three floors to refresh the façade and avoid using clinker throughout. Our goal was to design a unique building, and we also aimed to master the challenging urban planning conditions. We hope we succeeded!
